Discover the Charm of the Tiger Lily

The tiger lily (Lilium lancifolium), a beloved heirloom flower with origins in Asia, has found a home in gardens across the southern U.S. Its vibrant orange, spotted blooms add a touch of exotic beauty to any landscape.

A Story of Sharing and Connection: The Tiger Lily's Journey

One stand I found was in northeast Texas. As I drove by, I saw tiger lilies surrounding every tree at this old home. I knocked on the door and an older lady and her physically fit, middle-aged son answered. I explained what we do at the Southern Bulb Company, and the son said he would gladly share the black bulbils, (the tiny bulbs from which you can eventually grow a full sized tiger lily plant).

The gentleman, who told me he had served our country in the Army's Special Forces, walked around with me and explained his unsuccessful experience in trying to save the bulbils. Apparently, he found, they do not like to be stacked and left in a coffee can in the garage. "You can't treat them like seeds," he told me. "They'll rot on ya!" I could tell that horticulture had become his passion, and I promised him I'd plant them right away.

I thanked him, both for his military service and for his horticultural service.

Planting and Care for Your Tiger Lilies

Tiger lilies prefer a woodland setting with acidic soil and afternoon shade during their summer blooming season

Planting Time: Plant as soon as you receive the bulbs. If delayed, store them in the refrigerator.
Planting Location:
Choose a spot with about 8 hours of summer sun and well-drained soil. Don't plant during a hard freeze.

Planting Depth: Plant bulbs 2-3 times their height deep (e.g., a 2-inch bulb should be planted 4-5 inches deep).
Watering: Provide ample water as their foliage begins to appear in March and April.

Tiger Lily Multiplication: A Gardener's Delight

Once the blooms are coming to an end, knock off the bulbils and gently scratch them into the soil. With rich organic soil and some moisture, you'll have a stand of Tiger Lilies in just a few years

Attracting Pollinators and Enhancing Your Garden

Tiger lilies are a magnet for pollinators like hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies, adding life and movement to your garden. Combine them with companion plants for year-round interest:

Companion Plants: Salvias, Lantanas, Plumbago, Phlox, Alyssum, Snapdragons, Pansies, Cyclamen, Paperwhites, Narcissus, Iris, Snowflakes, Rain Lilies, Crinums, and Hymenocallis.

Tiger Lily Hardiness and Growing Zones

Tiger lilies thrive in USDA hardiness zones 3-9, making them suitable for a wide range of climates.

So Worth the Read
Format: Audiobook
I absolutely loved this book. The pacing was great, the characters felt real, and the story kept me hooked the entire time. There were a few moments that genuinely surprised me, and I appreciated how everything came together at the end. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys Dark Romance/ Gothic Fiction

4 star read - dark gothic romance
Format: Kindle
Master of Salt and Bones by Keri Lake 4 STAR READ “You’re my curse. Staying away from you, is like trying to hold my breath when the tide is rising.” This book reminds me a lot of Nightshade, also by Keri Lake, but without the fantasy element. It gives off the same gothic vibes, including flash backs, history of abuse, and sexual deviances. It also has some overlap with the older male character obsession that is seen in Nocticadia - though Lucien doesn’t hold a candle to Professor Bramwell. SUMMARY Lucien was abused, lied to, and manipulated his whole life, by everyone who should have protected and cared for him. A wealthy heir to a massive fortune, he is hard, dark, and delicious. The story unfolds across two timelines, jumping between Lucien’s past and present, and Isa’s POV. Lucien is viewed as the devil of Tempest Cove, covered in scars and rumors abound involving the death of his wife and son. Isa is the daughter of the town whore, who has struggle to fit in and cope with the tribulations of her life. Lucien hires Isa to be his mother’s companion, to keep her company and encourage her to get out of bed each day. As they continue to bump into each other and interact, their relationship develops beyond his dark obsession. Lucien is wary to get attached as his connection to a dangerous secret society puts everyone he cares about at risk, however there may be no way around Isa’s involvement. WHAT I LIKED and DISLIKED It was a great story full of tragedy and resilience. Both characters have deep back stories that unfold throughout the book, we get information at just the right time to make things make sense. It is really well told. It does feel a bit slow in the middle, I took a mid book break to read something else but came back to it and wondered why I stopped - the reason I gave 4 stars was because I had the need to take the break. Which tells me I lost interest during part of it. Lucien has so many layers and each one is full of sadness and devastation. Isa’s story is tragic in its own way, however her youth has her dealing with them in a difference way - she is definitely more detached in her own way. There is an age gap - Lucien is 33, Isa is 19 — I’m not usually a fan of this kind of age gap, but Isa isn’t childish or immature so it works. The book definitely gives Grumpy x sunshine vibes. The spice is well done and paced well throughout the book. If you like spicy, gothic, dark romance and have enjoyed other books by Keri Lake this book will not disappoint. There are references to rape, sexual abuse, physical abuse, and mental illness — I would check any triggers before reading

Great start
Format: Kindle
I loved this book! It's funny but still deals with tough themes, like chronic illness, a serial killer on the loose, and a dash of self-harm. The guys are interesting and distinct, we don't know too much about them yet. It does end on a really terrible cliffhanger but on the bright side the next book is out and I believe the series is complete. I have enjoyed both of these authors separately and this is a great team up!

Fudge!
Format: Kindle
Titles aren’t my strong suit. Sorry not sorry. That ending has me completely frustrated book two isn’t out yet. Just throwing that out there. First thing first, this is a high school book where the lead is under 18. Yea yea she’s about month from being an adult, but I can’t say I would’ve even opened the file if I’d realized. It’s not a smut fest or anything, but there is sexual tension as each party figures out their emotions. That being said, it’s a good book. There are some troubling parts, like how the supes come into their powers at 13, but most of those are dealt with in a way that makes sense. Kian is the exception. His whole arc pisses me off, especially since no one stepped in. Reflecting back on real world situations, ten or so years ago, I can see it happening, but it still makes me sick. Which, I’m sure was the whole damn point. For the most part, Courting Darkness is a fun read. I found myself laughing along with most of the set up. By the time it started getting serious, I’d grown to like the characters enough it held an impact. I’ll be adding book two to my list for when it comes out.

Intriguing
Format: Kindle
An intriguing story that played out slowly while introducing some unique characters. The story became quite fascinating to read as these same characters provided startling revelations to their lives. As their relationships evolve, more drama and mystery is revealed adding to my fascination. I can’t wait to read more.
